new rules in jailsThe Prisoners in Telangana may very soon have to pick up shovels and carry bricks and mortars to renovate the primary school buildings in the state which can earn them a part atonement for their crimes.

Recently, the prisons department has sent a proposal to the state government to allow it to provide labour in the form of prisoners for renovation of primary schools while the state provide the building materials. This will get the state the benefit of saving substantial costs in terms of labour.

The prisons department is running several in-prison industries and petrol bunks with the in-house labour from the prisoners. The department do not want government to give them money to buy vehicles. The prisons department has earned a profit of 3,28,80,953 in 2014 from the industries it runs. This includes Rs 2,82,83,833 from the petrol bunks.
