Many may not know why AP Chief Minister Naidu picked up ‘Medha Towers’ to house the heads of all departments. Medha Towers was built in 30 acres in 2010 by Larsen & Toubro with an estimated budget of 90 Cr for the United AP. Medha Towers has more 1.75 lakh square feet built up area and most of it is remained unoccupied. They were constructed to replicate Hyderabad’s Cyber towers but lack of business interest most its space remained empty.

Now that AP decided Vijayawada as temporary capital, Medha Towers will house 20-25 departments in the first phase. There is also a vast area of land next to Medha Towers owned by Transport department which is under discussion to build a temporary secretariat on the lines of the one in Hyderabad. As for the CM’s temporary office, a building constructed by a private agency between Vijayawada -Guntur is under consideration. AP government will start functioning from Medha Towers from 2nd October.
