Statue of Unity Stirs Controversy Right on the Inauguration DayPrime Minister Narendra Modi a little while ago unveiled the World’s Largest Statue, The Statue of Unity that of Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat. The imposing monument, touted as the world’s tallest statue, is twice the height of Statue of Liberty and is built on an islet, Sadhu Bet, near the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Narmada district.

But then, a new controversy eruped right on the inauguration day. The plaque on the statue has names in 10 Languages – Five of them Indian and the others Foreign. Tamil is the only language from the South. Also, there are mistakes in Tamil. People are angry about ignoring the rest of the Indian Languages.

“How can you call it ‘The Statue of Unity’ when you ignore all the languages of the country while giving preference to Foreign languages?,” People question. Built at a cost of Rs. 2,989 crore, the statue depicts Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, wearing a traditional dhoti and shawl, towering over the Narmada River. Iron was collected from all over the country for the statue of Sardar Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India.
