In what can be termed as very disturbing trend for the newest state in the country, Telangana itnessed a sharp increase in number of rape cases in 2015 (up to November) with 1,020 cases recorded across the state. The count is just 893 in 2014.
This was revealed by the data released by the state’s Police department. The state also recorded high women related crimes. There were 11,784 such cases in 2014 and this year, they have increased marginally to 12,422 cases.
The numbers would have been even higher if not for the state government’s SHE teams which were formed this year with the sole purpose of protecting the modesty of women. The state owes to implement SHE teams much efficiently in 2016 to make the state more safe for women.
