RIP Jaipal Reddy - A Rare Breed PoliticianFormer Union Minister and Senior Congres Leader, S Jaipal Reddy breathed his last in the early hours of today. He is suffering from fever for the last few days and was admitted to Asian Gastro Enterology Hospital, Gachibowli. Jaipal Reddy belongs to a rare breed of honest politicians.

He resigned to the Congress Party in protest to the Emergency. He contested against Indira Gandhi in Medak Parliamentary Constituency in 1980 on Janata Party ticket but lost. He is a five-time MP and Four-time MLA. He is selected as the Best Parliamentarian in 1998 and is the first from the South to get the award.

Many believe that he is a rare breed in Congress ecosystem. Jaipal Reddy as the Minister of Oil and Natural Gas during the UPA-2 Regime created a sensation by imposing a fine of 7000 Rs. crores on Mukesh Ambani’s company for the sharp drop in production of gas and violations mentioned in CAG’s 2011 report.

Later on, expected lines, he was shunted out of the ministry to an insignificant the science and technology and earth sciences ministries. He is also instrumental about passing the Telangana bill in Lok Sabha amid the din by sitting in the Speaker’s Chamber. Jaipal Reddy’s funeral will take place in Hyderabad on Monday with full state honors.
