RBI - Data on Junked Notes Only After June 30thReserve Bank of India (RBI) has confirmed that the data on the junked 500 and 1000 Notes will be available only after June 30th, the day when all windows for depositing old notes will be closed. There is a lot of criticism on the government and the RBI about keeping the data under wraps.

RBI says that it is yet to finalize the data about the notes deposited in cooperative banks, receipt of information from Nepal and Bhutan and close of the window for deposit of notes by NRIs. It was estimated that Rs 15.45 lakh crore worth old notes accounting for 86 per cent of old 500 and 1000 rupee notes was in circulation before demonetisation.

Experts opine that only a little amount of these notes did not return to banks making the whole process a failure. Post demonetisation RBI has pumped in Rs 9.92 lakh crore worth currency notes into circulation and will be removing all the limits on withdrawals of Cash from 13th March.
