village panchayath officer marries 6 year girlTelugu version of Tamil movie ‘Rangam’ did extraordinarily well in Telugu States despite no big star cast or known names like Kamal, Rajni, Vikram or Surya. The episode which clicked for the movie happens to be the one in which a politician (Kota Sreenivas Rao) marries a minor girl because he thinks his stars would change and he would become Chief Minister.

Almost similar kind of episode came into light from Rajasthan. A picture of a six-year old girl married to village panchayat head of Gangrar Panchayat surfaced on WhatsApp and soon the pic started getting widely circulated. This information reached district collector and SP of Chittorgarh.

It is learnt that the ward Panch (village head), Ratan Jat got secretly married to a six-year old girl and after that both the families fled the scene only to be caught virtually by WhatsApp pictures. This comes under Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and hence based on the reports prepared, police are going to register an F.I.R. on Ratan Jat and the girl’s family.

It’s not like people got inspired by films because one can’t even weirdly think that Ratan Jat from Rajasthan rural area would have watched a Tamil movie. But it’s a strange coincidence which reflects how regressive are our thought processes even after 66 years of Independence.
