Prepaid Electric Meter Mantra to Negligence in Government OfficesGovernment Offices have this history of using Power indiscriminately and not pay for it later. As a result, many offices have huge unpaid bills. But then, this is going to be a thing of past as discoms are setting up prepaid rechargeable electricity meters in government offices.

Discoms have acquired about 20,000 prepaid meters and the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) cleared their use. The meters will be set up from June and will be completely installed in all the offices in two months time.

The offices will have to purchase power in advance, like cellphone recharge. If they do not pay in advance, they will not have electricity. As a result, there will be accountability in government offices and discoms will be spared from the huge arrears.
