Andhra Pradesh’s ambitious Fiber Grid Project is all set to begin from August 15th. This Project is taken up by AP government as a part of the Prime Minister’s Internet for All ambition. The state government submitted DPR of the project in June 2015 seeking capital expenditure requirement of Rs 3,590 crore from the Center.
But it has been more than a year, and the Union IT and communications ministry is yet to take a decision on the funding. Prime Minister on several occasion said he is very impressed with the idea of using electric poles to run the fibre optic cables and even sent a team to the state to study the model.
The project taken up by Andhra Pradesh aims at providing every household in the state with Internet, TV and telephone services at the doorstep for a very affordable price of just 150 Rupees per month. The vision of the government is to provide 10-15 Mbps broadband connections to 12 million homes at an affordable price.
