The power deficit in Telangana is increasing day by day and reached 800MW now due to the increase in the demand. It is said that the demand from agriculture sector increased by 500MW this year from the last year. Telangana state is currently equipped to supply 5000MW power and efforts are on to buy more power from other states. There are power cuts all over the new state including the state capital.

On the other side with the crop season coming up, there is also increase in the power demand from agriculture sector but unless the demand from other segments decrease due to onset of rains, the state can not provide the seven hours power to farmers. There are reports that power supply to farmers in Telangana is in utter disarray right now. It is said that power supply is not provided for more than 2 hours and that too not in prefixed timings.
