Power-Panic in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Relies on His All-Weather Friend, KCRFrom 24 hours Power Supply in Chandrababu Naidu’s rule, the situation in the State has deteriorated to Six Hours Power Cuts in several districts. The situation is more or less a man-made. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy shut the doors on the Renewable Energy Companies and stopped taking power from them in the name of Revisiting PPAs.

This is a short-sighted decision because Thermal Power is also not sufficient as there is a shortage of coal by 25 MT/day. The Thermal Plants in Andhra Pradesh require around 70,000 MT of Coal every day but are getting only 45,000 MT. Moreover, the Central Government has barred AP Discoms from the purchase of Power due to non-payment of dues.

If not for the hydel power due to heavy floods, the situation would have been worse. At this juncture, the Chief Minister is said to have SOSed his recent all-weather friend, KCR to increase the coal supply so that the Thermal Production can be increased.

It has to be seen how the Telangana Government responds. Interesting thing here is that the Government which has rejected Power from Renewable Energy Companies saying that they are of higher rates is ready to purchase power at any cost to meet its demand.
