Polvaram project has been a tough proposition for the Jagan government. First the failure of the reverse tendering process and now, a hefty fine for not following environmental regulations in the construction of the project.
The Supreme Court has now upheld the ruling of the NGT as a part of which the government of Andhra Pradesh should pay a penalty of Rs 250 crores for not following environmental regulations in the construction of the Polavaram project.
The government will also have to pay Rs 2.48 crores to Purushottapattanam and Rs 1.9 crores to Pattiseema.
Challenging the ruling of the NGT, the government approached the Supreme Court. Upon the hearing, the court upheld the NGT’s decision and ordered the state government to carry out the same. Further hearing is postponed to February 2023.
