polvaram-project

The controversial amendments to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill-2013 are approved by the Lok Sabha. The bill was introduced by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. MPs of Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh strictly opposed the bill saying that Center has no right to change the boundaries of a state with out knowing the opinion of concerned state Assembly according to the Article 3. TDP and BJP had issued whip to its MPs over this bill and it was passed very easily in Lok Sabha.

Now the bill will be sent to Rajya Sabha. We will have to see how BJP make the bill pass in Rajya Sabha as they do not have enough majority in the house. Congress’ support will become crucial there where the party enjoys good number of MPs. On the other side, TRS MP Vivek mentioned in Parliament that Telangana government will be taking legal route to stall Polavaram project and this bill.

According to the amendment passed today, 7 mandals of Bhadrachalam division which gets submerged due to Polavaram project will be included in Andhra Pradesh. TRS is opposing the project saying that several Tribals will be displaced due to this project and demanding that those mandals should remain in Telangana. They are demanding a change in the project design.
