Opposition parties in Telangana are struggling to find the right candidates for the upcoming GHMC elections. The state government recently announced the reservation of wards which were designed to be suitable to the ruling TRS and its friendly parties.
The wards which have strong opposition candidates were reserved to women. Even the chances of fielding the wives of those candidates are also missed by making sure the ward are reserved to women of other category than the candidate.
Reservation in some wards did not change for the elections in 2002, 2009 and now in 2016. For the first time, 50% of the wards (75 of the total 150) have been reserved for women candidates. Previously, only 33% seats were reserved for women.
