Reports are emerging that Megha Engineering is the only company that has bid for Polavaram Main Dam Works and Hydel Project. Buzz is that the company will get the tender unless there is a Technical issue. The company belongs to Megha Krishna Reddy who is a close aide of Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao.
Megha Krishna Reddy along with Jupally Krishna Reddy bought TV9 and other Media houses recently. So, this deal comes under the radar, the Opposition Telugu Desam Party accuses. Interestingly, Navayuga the contractor who is shunted out of the Project recently did not bid for the Tender even though they are allowed.
It will be interesting to see what is the amount quoted for. On the other hand, it is known that Navayuga already approached the court over the Preclosure of their contract and got a stay but the Government is still going forward with the Re-tenders even though it is pending in the courts.
The Centre, too, wrote letters to the state government seeking withdrawal of the plan to go in for reverse tendering of the project. Polavaram irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh is the world’s largest flood discharge dam currently under construction, involving Rs 57,000 crore in outlay including land acquisition, rehabilitation, and resettlement. The project would irrigate a total of 42 lakh acres of ayacut in two phases, supplying water to all 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh.
