Telangana Government has banned online rummy in the state and anyone who plays online rummy will be liable for prosecution. Those promoting the game will be punished too under a new law. The state cabinet approved an ordinance with this clause and sent it to Governor ESL Narasimhan.
The government says there are complaints that online rummy has become a mafia and there are several cases of fraud and money theft through such sites. The government opines that these sites are same as gambling and so banned them with immediate effect.
The TRS government had released its gaming policy three months ago, proposing incentives to those investing in online gaming industry. So, this ban may be a contrasting opinion.
