Official Stats: Crime Increases By 38% In Andhra PradeshNational Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the attached office of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has painted a grim story of Andhra Pradesh in 2020. The state has reported a spike of 38 percent in crimes in 2020. These are all official numbers derived from cases registered in all police stations of the state.

A total of 2,38,105 cases were registered in the state under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special local laws. The number is 92,354 more than those reported in 2019. According to NCRB, Andhra Pradesh has the seventh highest crime rate in India.

Crimes against women and Crimes against SC and ST communities are more or less when compared to 2019 while the crime against children slightly increased. We are talking only about the registered crimes and there will be many more which do not get unregistered.

What is more shocking is that the country is under a strict lockdown for many months in 2020 and even then, the crime graph only surged Northwards. It looks like it is time for the official machinery and the Police department to pull up their socks.
