The Real-Time Governance System (RTGS) of Andhra Pradesh Government has been proactive and accurate in predicting the effect and landfall of Fani Cyclone. RTGS has been monitoring the Cyclone movement closely and reported it to Railways and Odisha Government at regular intervals.
These updates came in handy to combat the Cyclone and also to minimize the loss of lives. So, Odisha Government and Railways have appreciated the System and the officials working there. At landfall, Fani was classified as an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm with winds of 180-190 km/h (112-118 mph) with gusts to 200 km/h (124 mph).
Close to One Million people all along the coast of Odisha and Uttarandhra were evacuated and were shifted to safe houses. Election Commission had relaxed the Model Code of Conduct in Odisha and four districts of Andhra Pradesh (Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Vishakapatnam, and East Godavari) for the smooth conduct of the Relief Operations.
