Numbers Crunching How Things Stand in Tamil Nadu AssemblyTamil Nadu Assembly is going to witness Jallikattu fight by Sasikala and O Panneer Selvam. Sooner or later, the Governor will ask Panneerselvam to take up a Floor Test. Here will look at the Numbers in Tamil Nadu Assembly and see how things stand for the moment to both of them.

Tamil Nadu Assembly has 235 seats out of which one is vacant due to Jayalalithaa’s demise. Among the 234 seats, AIADMK has 135 seats, the main opposition party has 89, Congress sits with 8 and IUML has One. The immediate concern for OPS will be to evade the anti-defection law for going against the party mandate.

O Panneerselvam has to have the support of 90 MLAs to call themselves as AIADMK and claim the party symbol. And the next mission is to have 118 MLAs support to form the government. If Paneerselvam has a significant number of MLAs support, even the archrivals like DMK may support him to keep Sasikala at bay. As of now, the numbers are in favour of Sasikala.

Even DMK do not want to go for immediate polls now. If at all the state gets to have early elections, it will be an election between Sasikala and O Panneerselvam for the voters and DMK will not stand a chance. DMK know it very well, they want AIADMK to complete the remaining four years term and people to get fed up with their internal bickering so that they will look at DMK for a stable leadership.
