The incessant rains destroying the crop is said to the reason. And now that the normalcy is restored but one more crisis is here. This time there is a over supply of Onions to the market and the wholesale price began to falls as much as Nine rupees for kg.

The Government during the crisis despite demands from the experts did not ban the export of the essential vegetable commodity. Instead it has increased the minimum export price (MEP) of Onions to $1,150 per tonne. Now that the crisis is over, the MEP has been reduced from $1,150 per tonne to $800.But the price is still high to attract international buyers. The prices are expected to fall five rupees per kg next month if government do not intervene. There by several farmers will incur severe losses.
