Not A Single Valid Reason to Change Polavaram ContractorPolavaram Project Authority (PPA) has submitted a Comprehensive Report to the Union Water Resources Ministry about the Pre-Closure of Existing Tenders and Re-tendering plan of YSR Congress Government. PPA termed the move as absurd and said this will force the Project future into the doldrums. PPA has submitted 18 Pages Report to the Ministry.

PPA in its report said the working of the existing contractor, Navayuga Engineering Company has been satisfactory and there is no reason why the contractor should be changed. The PPA also said the State Government could not show at least one reason why the contractor should be shown door from the Project.

“Due to a contractor change in 2009, there are several legal issues pending even today. If a similar situation comes once again, the officials could not concentrate on the actual construction. We may even have to shell out huge penalties to the Old Contractor. The issue in 2009 did not allow the project to resume work until 2013. A similar situation may happen,” the PPA warned.

The Ministry is likely to take a final stance on this issue in the next week. Speaking to the media the other day, the Union Minister said, “We are the paymasters of the Project and have all rights to know what is happening. Just that they are constructing it, does not mean they can do whatever they want”. The Minister’s statement indicates the mood of the Union Minister.
