Nirbhaya's Mother Broke down and Courtroom ClappedSupreme Court has upheld the death sentence to four convicts in Nirbhaya Rape Case which shook the nation in 2012. Nirbhaya’s mother broke down while the courtroom stood up to clap as the apex court felt that no relief should be provided to all the four convicts.

Incidentally, Justice Dipak Misra who had upheld death penalty to Yakub Memon in 2015, headed the SC bench on Nirbhaya. One of the accused, Ram Singh hanged himself in the prison and another, a juvenile who was out of jail after serving a sentence of three years in a reform home.

In December 2012, six people gang raped a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern in a moving bus. The woman succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012. They even put a rod into her genitals and pulled out her intestines.
