New demands on raise because of AP’s bifurcation

Not even few days had passed since Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, announced the special category status and financial boost to Seemandhra, opposition members have started demanding for the same for other newly formed states.

Few political parties like BSP, SP and JD(U) have demanded in the upper House that states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha needed similar packages in order to get developed. “State creation does not help unless special package given,” said BSP leader Mayawati.

A special committee, Raghuram Rajan committee, is a team that calculates the backwardness levels of states using their index and determines which states need assistance. As per their reports, Odisha stands as India’s most backward state followed by Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
