Narendra Modi Refuses to Intervene on JallikattuTamil Nadu is on a boil after Supreme Court banned Jallikattu, the cultural bull-taming sport of Tamil Nadu. The state Chief Minister, O Paneerselvam rushed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and met him in Delhi. He urged the Prime Minister to issue an ordinance for the conduct of the traditional sport.

But then it is said that the Prime Minister refused to intervene in the issue as the matter is sub-judice even as he appreciated the cultural significance of the bull-taming sport. On the other side, the ruling AIADMK will pass a resolution in the state demanding the lifting of the ban on Jallikattu.

The resolution is also likely to pursue a ban on PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals), which has resisted the conduct of the sport citing cruelty to bulls. Several Film Stars in Tamil have also extended their support to the protestors who are agitating against the Supreme Court’s directive.
