Modi government runs away from Special Status VotingAs expected, Modi government successfully prevented the voting on the Private Member bill put up by KVP Rama Chandra Rao in Rajya Sabha. Modi government is in for a major embarrassment as Congress Majority Rajya Sabha is likely to move the bill and with NDA ally, TDP having no option but to support it.

The government adjourned the house sine die after giving farewell to the 57 Rajya Sabha members who are retiring by June. The bill did not come to voting with government’s game plan as it passed the time the entire day with the farewell speeches. However the bill will not get lapsed and will come for voting in the rain season session of the parliament.

NDA will get slightly stronger by then with the elections for this 57 Rajya Sabha seats but Congress will still be the single largest party by then. But passing of the bill then will depend on other parties support to it. Anyways, BJP is happy that it could prevent the voting on the issue at least for now.
