Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, the convener of the chief ministers’ committee on Swachh Bharat had suggested the center to launch a ‘Name and Shame’ campaign across the country as part of the Swachh Bharat mission.
With this idea, the names of those who urinate in public and throw garbage on the streets will be put up prominently in public places such as railway stations, bus stations, airports, government hospitals and multiplexes in order to shame them.
Campaigns similar to Name and Shame already exist in countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh. However the center is yet to take a final decision regarding this. Irrespective of the center’s decision, the idea will be implemented in Andhra Pradesh by the state government. Naidu also suggested the center to pay high rates for power generated out of waste so as to encourage recycling of wastes.
