It is around one week since the first case of the mysterious illness in Eluru and the people there are still living in fear. The medical experts are yet to ascertain the exact problem even though they suspect it is due to the extensive levels of heavy metals in water.
As of now, that is only an assumption, the exact cause is yet to be established. And now, two more patients succumbed to the illness taking the total toll to three. These were critical patients shifted to Vijayawada for better medical care.
So far close to 600 patients have been admitted with the symptoms of epilepsy and vomiting. The bright spot is 511 have recovered and discharged. Forty-three patients were being treated in Eluru while thirty-three were shifted to Vijayawada for better medical care.
If it is due to the heavy metals, it is important to ascertain the source of the contamination and arrest it. But after the preliminary investigation report two days ago, nothing has happened from the State Government’s side.
