Mutton Biryani in Hyderabad may eat away your LiverEven if you are a non-alcoholic, your Liver may be in danger if you are always craving for your favourite mutton biryani. Hyderabad’s Gastroenterologists are reporting a very high incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among 30-35% of the patients they see every year.

They say its due to their obsession with biryani coupled with cold drinks.. Especially techies working in MNCs are prone to this problem due to the calorie-rich Biryani available in the city. The symptons include abdominal pain, chest pain, tiredness and will later lead to obesity. Doctors advice to restrict calorie intake to 1700-1800 only.

However, Biryani is known to be a high calorie-rich diet with each serving having an average of 500 calories, the ghee, vanaspati and red meat used in their preparation lead to NAFLD. Adding to that, most food joints in the city use adulterated oils and spices to make things much worse. Further doctors say there is no medically approved treatment for NAFLD.
