narendra modi joined chinese twitter weiboAhead of his first China tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi forayed in to Weibo which is considered as Chinese Twitter. No sooner did he announce his entry there more than 25000 followed him. But the welcome to Modi is not on expected lines. Many people were calling him ‘Ah-San’, a derogatory Chinese term for Indians that dates back to British-era colonialism.

Some of them were demanding that Tibet should be given to China and India should give Zangnan, a region in South Tibet that is in Arunachal Pradesh. China and India have had several disagreements on Zangnan along with a border war in 1962. “Tibet belongs to China”, “Zangnan belongs to China” were popular choruses directed at Narendra Modi’s account in Weibo.

Weibo is said to be the largest micro-blogging site of the country with over 140 million users. Modi who visited China several times in the past as Gujarat Chief Minister, is visiting the country for the first time as Prime Minister later this month.
