India has opened its account in Tokyo Olympics last week. Mirabai Chanu won a Silver medal in 49 Kgs Weightlifting. Since then, there are no more medals for the country in prestigious sporting event. But then, boxer Lovlina Borgohain has assured the second medal for the country in Olympics.

She has won her women’s welterweight quarterfinal vs Chinese Taipei’s Nien Chin Chen and confirmed a berth in the semi-final. Lovlina has lost against the same opponent four times previously in other tournaments. She made a comeback at the right time.

The semi-final will happen on August 4th. In Olympic boxing, both losing semifinalists get the bronze. So, a medal is guaranteed irrespective of the outcome of the August 4th match. Lovlina Borgohain hails from Assam. Mirabai Chanu is from Manipur. So both the medals for India are from the North-East.

Hopefully, she will be able to bag a Gold medal. India is yet to win a Gold Medal in the history of the Olympics.
