Chandrababu Naidu - TDP Municipal elections 2021Municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh have gone the YSR Congress way. It is very much expected since any ruling party will have an edge in a Local Election but then, the magnitude of the victory is worrisome. TDP has come second but one should say, it is a distant second.

The major reason for this poor show is the lack of enthusiasm in the leaders within the party. Places like Tadipatri and Mydukuru, TDP has won and that is a testimony about how the leaders like JC Prabhakar Reddy and DL Ravindra Reddy worked hard there.

The similar enthusiasm is missing elsewhere in the state. After 2019 defeat, most leaders have gone silent and could not channelize the energy of the cadre. Several MLA candidates who contested in 2019 are seen nowhere. Chandrababu and Lokesh were also away due to the pandemic.

Leaving aside the topic about right or wrong, it has not helped TDP. In a place like Vijayawada where TDP should have a natural advantage, the party lost due to the fights between the leaders. Senior Leaders of the party coming before media two days ahead of the election and washing their dirty linen before media has done an irreversible damage.

Naidu stood as a mute spectator and paid the price. One could not understand what are they fighting for. Not taking away anything from YSR Congress in this grand victory, TDP and its cadre who braved all odds would definitely feel let down by their own leaders. Naidu should have so much to do if things should change.

Whatever favorable results the party got should be credite to the party’s cadre who stood their ground in a very difficult situation. And no leader including Chandrababu Naidu should take a credit in that.
