Lockdown Makes Home Hell for Women?The National Commission for Women had released the data of complaints received online and via WhatsApp in two blocks – 27th February to 22nd March and 23rd March to April 16th. The second block indicates the Lockdown period.

The data indicates that there is a massive spike in domestic violence cases during the Lockdown as people were confined to indoors. While there are 396 complaints in the 25 days between 27th February and 22nd March and 587 complaints during the Lockdown days between 23rd March and 16th April.

The complaints to the NCW only indicate a minute fraction of the actual domestic violence cases but the numbers indicate the plight of women and increased atrocities. Across the world, where the Lockdown is imposed, there is an increased number of domestic violence and divorces.

It is known to our readers that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extended the Lockdown till May 3rd. According to the stats available with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there is a total of 13,387 Coronacases in the country which includes 437 fatalities.
