States have eased Lockdown restrictions to allow Liquor sale to rake in revenues. But that has led to ugly scenes of serpentine queues before wine shops raising severe concerns about Corona spreading. Some states have increased the prices in the name of deterring the Tipplers but that proved to have zero effect.
There are reports of states contemplating Home Delivery of Liquor. Leading Food Delivery App, Zomato is now aiming to foray into delivering alcohol as it seeks to cash in on high demand for booze. The app recently diversified into grocery deliveries.
The food business is down by 70% due to the Pandemic and states like Telangana totally banned food delivery. Zomato has put up the proposal to a technology-enabled home delivery based solution that can promote the responsible consumption of alcohol.
There is currently no legal provision for home deliveries of alcohol in India but the situation demands to change it.
