Kondapalli-KillaThe Tourism segment was confined more to Hyderabad and temples in Seema Andhra region in the United State. After the state bifurcation, Andhra Pradesh government has shifted his focus on to the forgotten historic structures in the state and giving a face-lift to the historic Kondapalli fort, 20 km from Vijayawada city. The 14th century fort, built by king Prolaya Vema Reddy is being renovated by the archaeology department.

The first phase of the beautification is complete after the chemical treatment to The ‘narthakasala’, ‘gajasala’, arches, pillars and front portion of the fort. The second phase will begin very soon after the sanction of new batch of funds. The Central government has sanctioned funds for the renovation of the fort from the 13th Finance Commission and the entire works are going to cost Rs 3 crore.

Once the renovation is complete, Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation will unleash a big publicity campaign for the fort and attract visitors. APTDC is also planning to develop a craft bazaar to market the world famous Kondapalli toys and other handicrafts of the district at the fort.
