Khammam is one district where TRS could not get hold even in its prime.
In the 2018 assembly elections, despite victory everywhere, Mahakutami did a decent job in this district.
Even a severely battered party like TDP won two seats in the district in that election.
The influence of settlers is very high in Khammam which shares borders with Andhra Pradesh.
Now, BJP which is trying to make inroads into Telangana is looking to establish a foothold in this district.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageshwara Rao are disgruntled with TRS for a long time.
Ponguleti won as an MP in the 2014 elections on the YSR Congress ticket. This is even though the party is severely affected in the state during the bifurcation.
Tummala has been a veteran leader of the district since NTR’s time. He joined TRS and even served as a minister in KCR’s cabinet.
We do not know what happened but KCR suddenly sidelined Tummala and he has been inactive in the party for a long time.
If both the leaders join BJP, the party will definitely gain strength in the district. They are also capable of bringing more leaders into the party along with them.
