Central Government has cleared the route for Vijayawada Metro Rail Project. The Union Urban Development Ministry has added Vijayawada Metropolitan Area into Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act – 2002 which is mandatory for the project to begin.
Andhra Pradesh government is pushing for this since a long time and finally, it happened. The works of the project can not begin until this has happened according to the law. On the other side, it has to be seen how the Central and state governments address the financial viability issues of the project.
The entire project is expected to cost 13,488 Crore. The state and central governments will pitch in 20% each of the total amount required for the project and the remaining 60% is to be obtained as loans from various international agencies.
