Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao is said to be keen on advancing the Panchayat elections to April or May 2018. The CM is currently planning to empower panchayats with more powers and funds so that works can be completed on war-footing.
The idea of advance polls is that it could help them in assessing its strength before the 2019 Assembly elections. KCR is particularly keen to see the performance of the party in rural Telangana, from where a large chunk of TRS voters come.
In case, the result is positive, it will be a display of strength and if it is negative, the ruling party will get time to make the damage control ahead of the General Elections. The CM has been holding meetings with ministers, party MPs and MLAs and taking their feedback on advancing the panchayat elections.
