Telangana Government often makes tall claims of making Hyderabad to a Universal City but the fact is that the government is making GHMC toothless by denying its due share of funds from the state government for the past two years.
The Corporation is managing to stay afloat with the revenue generated through property tax collection and other avenues such as building fees. As a result, GHMC is only repairing the roads and no plans of laying new roads in the city.
The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department have not released about 2,000 crores under various heads such as a share in profession tax, motor vehicle tax, stamp duty, property tax on government properties and even utilized funds released by the Centre. Even the proposal for SRDP funds is also pending with the government.
