KCRTelangana is in the grip of the COVID second wave. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 4,723 cases. With the rise in cases, chief minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao has declared a 10-day lockdown coming in force from May 12.

While the 10-day lockdown is in force, the latest reports say that the state government is mulling to extend the lockdown till May 31. Some of the states have already imposed complete lockdown like Maharashtra and Odisha.

In this regard another cabinet will take place on May 20 to take stock of the lockdown and depending on the discussion, the state may take a decision. But with the rise of COVID cases daily and the state badly hit, it is reported that Telangana may extend the lockdown till May 31. Thus, KCR’s crucial decision awaits on May 20.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in its latest report said that India accounts for a 21 percent COVID positivity rate. The ICMR chief has said that all the districts which account for COVID infection with more than 10 percent of tested should go for a six to eight weeks lockdown.

On Tuesday, India witnessed the highest casualties ever with a fatality rate of 4,200 on a single day.
