KCR's Ambitious Scheme to Do More Bad Than GoodLess than two years away from 2019 elections, Telangana Rashtra Samiti is rolling out the Prestigious 24X7 Power to Agriculture Scheme in a bid to woo the votes of the farmers. The government is risking the rollout of the scheme even though it has to go for costly purchase to meet the demand.

While Medak, Nalgonda, and Karimnagar districts will get 24×7 power on a pilot basis, it would be extended to other districts in a phased manner. But then, experts feel that KCR is taking a dangerous route to woo the voters.

There are over 20 lakh power connections to the agriculture sector in the state, and about half of them have auto starters fixed. 24X7 Power to Agriculture will mean that the ground water levels will be depleted non-stop. The agriculture in Telangana is mainly dependent on Pump Sets.

This indiscriminate usage of Pump Sets will lead to more power and water being wasted increases many folds. This will do more damage than good to the agriculture in coming years. The ruling government may better opt for scientific study before rolling out Votes Minting Schemes.
