Kapu Reservation Bill Introduced in Aandhra Pradesh AssemblyAndhra Pradesh Government has tabled the Kapu Reservations Bill in the State Assembly a little while ago. BC Welfare Minister, Achham Naidu introduced the Bill which will give 5% Quota for the community in Jobs and Educational Opportunities. The Bill will be taken up for discussion in the house tomorrow.

The Parliament recently passed a Bill giving 10% Reservation to the Economically Backward Sections in the Upper Castes and it is already an act. The Act allows the State Governments to make the modalities of the implementation. So, the State Government wants to give 5% out of the total 10% to the Kapu Community.

On the other side, few people argue that the State Government can not introduce Caste in a Quota which is supposed to be for the poor in all the Upper Castes. They say the Bill even if passed in the State Assembly will not stand the scrutiny of the courts. The Government is unlikely to have any problems in passing the Bill.
