Polavaram_Project_WorksPolavaram Project – the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh is falling short of the targets. Jagan Mohan Reddy brought in a new contractor in the name of Reverse Tendering but that actually backfired on the project.

And then, there are technical glitches that the government did not focus and those glitches now are delaying the project further. According to an RTI filed with the Central Government previously, Polavaram (excluding R&R) is 71.31% complete until 2nd June 2019.

The project is only 78.99% completed until October 2022. That means only 7.68% progress in three years and four months of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s rule. This has been revealed by Union Jal Shakthi Minister Gajendra Singh Shekawat in Parliament.

At this rate, the project will take forever to complete.

The minister said the revised target for the Polavaram is completion by January 2026. That means the buck is already passed to the next government. Polavaram used to be the top priority in the previous government but in the present government, it is all about freebies. So, it had taken a back seat.

Polavaram Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project comes with a total capacity of 194 TMC which will irrigate about Five Lakh Acres over Two Crops Every year. The Project will also generate 960MW of Hydel Power which is the cheapest available power in the market right now.
