Malkajgiri – the biggest Parliamentary constituency in the country had gone in Telugu Desam Party’s way. Mallareddy of TDP won the seat with a majority of votes over 160,511 his nearest rival, Mynampally Hanumantha Rao of Telangana Rashtra Samiti. Lok Satta President Jaya Prakash Narayana only had to content with fourth position with Congress’ Sarve Satya Narayana being third.
While Telangana sentiment is ruling the roost in all the parliamentary positions in the region, Malkajgiri is the only seat where settlers have a say. Presence of more settlers and educated voters tempted Jaya Prakash to choose this seat but the voters this time seem to have taken the side of traditional parties. Former DGP Dinesh Reddy who contested from YSR Congress party came fifth in the election.
