Jayalalitha_verdict

A special court in Bangalore has decided Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jaya Lalitha in disproportionate assets case lodged in 1996. The case was transferred to Bangalore’s Special Court in 2003 by the Supreme Court on a petition expressing doubts over conduct of fair trail in Tamil Nadu as Jayalalithaa is the Chief Minister. In the raids on Jaya Lalitha’s house, 880 Kgs of Silver, 28 Kgs of Gold, 10000+ Sarees, 90 watches, 750 pairs of sandals were found. All this wealth was amassed just by taking one rupee salary.

The Special Court had accepted with CBI’s arguments on Jaya Lalithaa being corrupt to the extent of 66 Crores. Multilayer security cover was provided to the makeshift court created at Bangalore central prison at Parappana Agrahara on the outskirts of Bangalore city. 1000s of AIADMK Party workers reached the court premises as the judge pronounced 4 year jail and 100 crore penalty for Jayalalitha in the case.

On the other side, back in Tamil Nadu, the state Cable Corporation had stopped telecasting news channels except Jaya TV owned by the Jaya Lalithaa herself. With this conviction, Jaya Lalithaa will have to resign as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and will have to put up some one as her successor. This verdict will come as a huge relief and a lifeline for the opposition DMK party ahead of 2016 Assembly elections.
