Tamil Nadu government is in the process of drafting an ordinance to make legal the bull-taming sport, Jallikattu. We are told that the state government will be sending the ordinance draft to the Union Home Ministry and the President of India for the approval.
If it is approved, the bull-taming sport will get immunity from the ban imposed by the Supreme Court. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, O Paneerselvam asked the protestors to relax and assured them that Jallikattu may be conducted by Sunday as the ordinance is on the way.
The central government refused to give the ordinance itself as the matter is sub-judice but then Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the cultural significance of Jallikattu. On the other side, the entire Tamil Nadu is on a boil over the issue as they see the Supreme Court ban as a curb on Tamil culture.
