The other day, the Principal Opposition Telugu Desam Party staged a protest in the Assembly demanding compensation for the farmers for their Crop Damage due to Cyclone Nivar. The Opposition Party brought to the notice of the house that the Government did not pay up the farmer’s share of Crop insurance which can prove dangerous since the insurance companies likely not to pay for the damage.
The treasury benches tried to stop Chandrababu from speaking in the house and even suspended the Opposition leader and TDP MLAs. It is the first time an Opposition leader is suspended from the house. Even though the Government tried to be in denial mode, it seems to have learned it a mistake and issues a G.O. at midnight of Monday releasing the funds for the farmer’s share of Crop insurance.
590.51 Crore were disbursed to the insurance companies. Even though the Government would not accept it as the Opposition’s Victory, it is heart warming that the farmers were saved at the right time. Cyclone Nivar has come at the time of harvesting resulting in huge losses to the farmers.
Even before they could breathe in relief, two more cyclones are threatening to hit Coastal Andhra in the next few days.
