YS Jagan GovernmentUnion Government has rejected the DPR of the proposed Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme sent by Andhra Pradesh Government. The project is estimated at 4,000 Crore and was bagged by Megha Engineering. It is the only new project announced after Jagan coming to power.

In what can be termed as a surprise, the Center said the DPR is ridiculously prepared without even the mention of basic things. The center sent back the DPR and asked the authorities to rework on it as per the guidelines of the Central Water Commission (CWC).

“If the State Government could not even prepare a DPR, how they can complete the project? This is just for commissions,” Telugu Desam Party leaders say. The project was envisaged to lift 3 TMCs of water per day from the Srisailam reservoir to irrigate the parched lands of Kurnool and Kadapa districts.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal stalled the project citing the lack of environmental clearances. The NGT also found fault with the Government’s attempt to project it as a drinking water scheme without any irrigation component with an attempt to bypass the necessity of obtaining environmental clearances.
