Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had appointed a committee to look into the Kapu Reservations issue after scraping the 5% quota for the community. But even many in YSR Congress say that Kapu Reservation issue is a gone case and this committee is a mere formality.
Political experts say Jagan has his own calculation in this move. Jagan ever since coming to Power is targeting BCs who are traditionally a strong vote bank of TDP. By denying Kapu Reservations, Jagan will appease them. At the same time, Jagan feels that Kapu Vote Bank may tilt towards Janasena and so there is no much damage if this decision displeases the community.
Jagan believes that he can get some votes from the community by giving ample funds to the Kapu Corporation. Kapu Community voted en masse to YSR Congress in the recent elections despite the presence of a so-called Kapu party in the form of Janasena and they are hurt with this development.
Kapu community is the biggest vote bank in the state. The community is traditionally with TDP but whenever the community tilted towards some other party like after Vangaveeti Ranga’s demise, Praja Rajyam, and 2019 elections, TDP has lost the election.
