Indians Caught in ‘Contract Marriage’ Fraud in U.S.Remember Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites, where he marries a Mexican to get her legal entry into the US. That marriage is a ‘contract marriage’ and there have been quite a few films that have been made on the subject. Now, looks like the US officials too watch our films and know exactly when and how Indian-origin Americans or American citizens marry Indians dying to get a green card.

Undercover law enforcement agents posed as potential grooms and ‘married’ some people who were involved in a ‘marriage fraud’ racket to trap them.

Those accused include Amelia Adams, Barbara Yater, and Vivek Patel among others. Usually, in such cases, those involved marry in exchange for a set amount of dollars, and everything from the marriage set-up to pictures to the rest of paper work is taken care of by the brokers.

Another accused happens to be Vishal Kumar Chabbria, 41, who has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit marriage fraud. His charge carries a penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Also accused are Dishant Patel and Shweta Patel who also entered into fraudulent marriages for green cards only to end up ‘marrying’ undercover officers.
