Indian Woman Killed, Other Injured in Hit-and-Run in CanadaRecently the Indian community was shocked by the horrific accident that killed one and severely injured another woman in Squamish when a motorist struck the women waiting at the bus stop.

Three weeks ago Kuljeet Kaur and Gurpreet Sangha met up at Gurpreet’s place of employment for dinner and then headed to the bus stop when the accident occurred.

The motorist is still at large. It was approximately 11.30 pm when the vehicle flipped onto the sidewalk striking the women and crashing into the chain link. While Gurpreet fought for two weeks, she succumbed to injuries after two weeks in hospital. Her family of husband and two sons are in India and Gurpeet’s relatives are trying to get them to Squamish.

Kuljeet was on a visit to Squamish to meet her family and was to return to India on Sept 29. She is severely injured and presently needs support even to stand or walk. She has undergone surgery but needs another surgery to correct her collarbone.

However, as she was to return from Canada on 29th, she will no longer get insurance money for any medical expenses, though her family is frantically trying to arrange for insurance.

Members of the Indian community in Squamish have set up a ‘gofundme’ campaign for donations to support the families of Gurpreet and Kuljeet.
